South Wairarapa Tramping Club

Oct 2014

Despite the wet weather over much of the last month the club pressed ahead with several trips.
On 23 August a group of four climbed Mt Reeves in marginal conditions and were rewarded with patches of snow on the summit. While the views were minimal on the day it was an interesting trip on a good and varied track.

On 30 August a small group went up the Mt Frith track for some track maintenance. Despite the efforts of club members over the years the spread of gorse remains a concern in this location.

On 6 September bad weather forced the partial abandonment of the Rimutaka Trig and Pylon Track walk confirming past experience that this track, because of its exposure, is a fine weather proposition.

On 13 September a group of seven traversed the coast from White Rock to just short of Tora and return.

Despite the bad weather forecast the group enjoyed a very interesting trip in good conditions.

Trips planned for October include the following:
4 October – Castle Point and Mataikona area – leader Vicki Brookes – 06 379 8576 – medium fitness
