Late last term the Kahutara School Year 5 and 6 children helped Friends of Onoke Spit and DOC plant 1000 plants. It is great to see the development and growth that our previous years planting have made. They are looking at returning soon to place our school penguin boxes.
A further planting has been carried out at Wairio by eight Kahutara students, along with Mike Meehan and Linda Smith. They joined the Ducks Unlimited and Greater Wellington contractors Andrew Marshall and Don Bell to continue the ongoing wetlands planting at Wairio. This work has been going on for nine years now to help establish plant life in an area that floods easily.
