South Wairarapa Tramping Club

July 2014

Despite some patchy winter weather the club has enjoyed a varied programme of trips.

On 7 June club members participated in a tree-planting working bee at Lake Domain, Lake Wairarapa. As most of the tree-planting holes had been dug by a post hole digger, the tree planters had an easy and enjoyable day.

On 14 June nine members made a trip to Blue Range Hut on a perfect winter day. The group had lunch at the historic hut in brilliant sunshine and with a spectacular view of the surrounding peaks. The trip was made more interesting by the fact that a helicopter spreading possum bait was operating in close proximity to the party on the higher reaches of the track.

On 21 June 14 club members went over the hill and travelled the Fort Dorset/Eastern Walkway. Despite the wind the group enjoyed this very spectacular walk which takes in some of Wellington’s best coastal scenery, including the Gallipoli Memorial.

The planned trip for July is for the 5 July, Mikimiki to Kiriwhakapapa and return, leaders Bruce and Mary Lambert, 06 304 9697.

Interested persons are most welcome. Please phone the nominated leader by the Thursday evening prior to the trip.
