Wairarapa Racing Club.
Summer Meeting.
(By Our Special Reporter).

Tho first day’s meeting of the abovo Club took placo on tho beautiful Tauhorcnikau course, yestorday. There was a record attendance of tho public, tho woathor was nil that could bo desired, and everything went off without a single hitch throughout tho day, reflecting the utmost credit upon all concerned.

Bookmakers wero on tho course in largo numbers plying their “calling,” and the deafening din they croated was soniowhat annoying, but thoy put much vigor Mf 4JMdiings, and along with tho Groytown JT jHw, liolpcd to liven things up.

Some fine dividends wore paid during tho day, a “boomer” of £52 19s being returned to four supporters of Te Taiaha, a very smart horso over a short distance, for running into second placo in tho Fiying Handicap. Tho horse was just bcaton on the last few strides, and tho four plucky backers had hard luck in not securing a £160 dividend.

Taken all through, tho racing was good; it might liavo been better in one or two races, had tho starter got his horses away better — tho first two races more particularly. Tho fair sex wero present in largo nuinbors, itnd one could not but help admiring the boautiful summer apparel.

Note: the spellings are as published, clearly the type setter was short of the letter e.
