Martinborough Community Board

July 2014

We are thrilled with the recent Council decision approving the budget for ongoing design and development of the Martinborough Community Centre Project. We thank the Council and CEO Paul Crimp for their vision and support for the community. We also thank the community for getting behind this project and in particular all the volunteers who have worked so hard to get the project this far.

This next stage will involve fleshing out the conceptual ideas, finalising the design and getting plans developed to a stage where we can approach some of the big Funding Trusts for support.

As you know we have initial pledges from community members and businesses of nearly 1 million dollars. This is a phenomenal number and we will continue to fundraise and set up several schemes whereby members of the community will be able to help the project at whatever level is appropriate for them. We will be setting up a Charitable Trust to receive any donations.

On other matters: Pam Colenso is hard at work finalising the new flags for the town. These flags will be up on the existing poles unless there is a particular event happening that has its own flags flying. She has worked with the Business Association to finalise the design for the flags.

In addition the Considine Park committee have approved the placement of two new benches in Considine Park. One in memory of Peter Craig and the other provided by the Community Board.

Adi McMaster has had a lot of success with the new Youth Group. The group has quite a few activites planned – from a movie night at the fire brigade to a visit to a music festival in Masterton. We think this is a great initiative and encourage the young to come along and see what is happening.
