Local author, Christine Hunt Daniell, spoke to the South Wairarapa Probus Club recently about her experiences writing her latest book, ‘Just an Orange for Christmas’. What a fascinating time she had interviewing local people about their lives and what it was like in the Wairarapa as they grew up.
Chris had a lively presentation style and it was easy to see how she must have engaged with her subjects and encouraged these down to earth people to tell her what it was really like here in the ‘early days’. How about opening and closing sixteen gates on the way to town and doing the same thing again going home.
Times were tough for many folk and an orange for Christmas was the extent of festive living for some in the Depression. There was lively discussion and more tales from the older Probus members following her talk. Chris also took the opportunity to sell a number of her books, all autographed!
