Cross Creek Blues Club

July 2014

In June, Cross Creek Blues Club was privileged to host one of Wairarapa’s most influential musicians, Mr Lenny T (Te Whare). Lenny played a set of his favourite blues supported by Mr Patrick McKenna on Bass, our secret weapon the remarkable Keith Austin on keyboard and Vic Singh on drums. It was a night to remember, not only that Lenny T was with us, but for the high quality music provided by members and guests earlier in the evening.

Our July guests are “East Slide Blues” two Gisborne musos. Ernie White’s influences are Westside Chicago – Magic Sam, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy and plenty of other greats in the mix. Doug Snelling originated in Ontario, Canada. In the late 60’s he saw bluesmen like Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Junior Wells and Buddy Guy in small club settings.

In 2008 he and two other veteran musicians formed the Wairoa Blues Band for the inaugural Wairoa Blues Festival. This promises to be another great night, compared by Club Captain and Grafia bandleader Rob Maunsell.

In August we will have “The Kelburn Viaduct Municipal Ensemble Jug Band”; Neil Warboys, Bill Woods, Maurice Priestley, Steve Carlyle and Pip Payne. These musos have all played in many other Bands including Wellington Heads, Bulldogs Allstar Goodtime Band and Hogsnort Rupert. Expect shouts, hollers, harmonies and lively a interpretation of Jug Blues.

Cross Creek Blues Club at the Tin Hut on Wednesday 2 July 2014 from 7:15pm. All welcome. Members $2. Visitors $5.
