Conversations with Martinborough Winemakers

July 2014

This is the third year that Wines from Martinborough are holding the series again with different wines and different winemakers.

We all know that Martinborough wines are special. But do you know why? Could you explain it to others? Wines from Martinborough believe that the people in our community are some of our most important champions. “As well as enjoying Martinborough’s wines, we want people to feel comfortable and confident talking about them to visitors or when they are travelling” explains Margaret Hanson, Wines from Martinborough Chairperson.

This is a special opportunity with some of Martinborough’s leading winemakers taking people through an interactive tasting of twelve of Martinborough’s superb wines, matched by finger food.

People will have the chance to:
– Gain an understanding of why Martinborough’s wines are so special
– Explore the impact of the terroir and wine making techniques on the different wines
– Ask any questions they want. Even the dumb ones.

There will be three sessions, all at The Wine Centre in Kitchener Street.

Saturday 12 July 5.30- 7.30 Pinot Noir- Martinborough’s flagship led by Carl Fraser (Murdoch James) and Katherine Jacobs (Big Sky Wines)

Saturday 19 July 5.30-7.30pm “The diversity of Martinborough’s white wines” led by Strat Canning (Margrain) and Nigel Elder (The Elder)

Saturday 26 July 5.30 -7.30pm “Martinborough surprises- some of our lesser known gems” led by Lance Redgwell (Cambridge Road) and Wilco Lam (Dry River)

Tickets are available for individual sessions or for the whole series. Call into the Wine Centre to reserve your place. You will be in for a real mid-winter treat.
