Voiney Palmer first person to buy up newspaper space for advertising in America 1841.

Thomas Cook arranged the publicised the first railway excursion in 1841. Four years later he established his travel agency Thomas Cook and Son.

The first adverting agency in America J W Thomson 1864.

He first NZ Tourist Guide book ‘Chapman’s Traveller’s Guide through NZ ‘ 1872.

Charles Haines becomes NZ’s first adverting agent selling adverting in the Wairarapa Daily in 1891.

NZ was the first country in the world to feature natural scenes on postage stamps 1898.

The NZ Tourist Office was established by the Minister of Railways Joseph Ward in 1901. In 1903 the Office distributed 4,300 pamphlets overseas. In 1907 made newsreels to send overseas.

The NZ Tourist Office liberated possums in Rotorua, Hokitika and Southland in 1905.
