Wharekaka residents have been busy this April decorating Easter eggs, playing Bowls and enjoying a variety of musical performances.
Local band JNX treated our residents to a musical trip back to the sixties that had everyone tapping their feet! On the other end of the musical spectrum we were also very privileged to receive a surprise performance from Martinborough’s own Vickie Jones and her friends from the NZ Symphony Orchestra. The music was absolutely beautiful and enjoyed by all who attended.
Exercise continues to be an important part of our activities schedule and our Pilates class is becoming extremely popular with the residents. So much so we may have to start moving the furniture in the lounge in order to have room for all the chairs!
The month was rounded out with a special delivery of knitted poppies for each of our residents to wear on Anzac day. We extend our thanks to Sally and Susan from the SWDC for this wonderful donation; it made our ANZAC day celebration even more special.
These acts of kindness have reinforced how lucky we are to live in Martinborough with such talented and community minded people. If you have a special talent or some time to share with our residents we are always happy to have volunteers. Anyone who is interested may contact Jemma Low (Activities Coordinator) on 306 9701 between 9.30am -2.30pm weekdays.
The Auxiliary is delighted to be supporting the decoration of the new dining room. A clock has just been purchased for the residents from Jessica’s Living Room in Martinborough and three gorgeous lead crystal glass birds made by the Crystal Chain Gang have been installed.
It is planned to have a wall of the birds as funds allow. The Crystal Chain Gang is made up of the combined talents of Jim Dennison and Leanne Williams, based in Martinborough and internationally renowned in the contemporary glass world.? ?The residents enjoyed a drive to see the autumn colours in April and our May outing is to the home of David and Carol Major – an event that has been enjoyed on previous occasions. As always, we welcome any help in our outings or please contact the Activities Officer if you would like to join us.?
