Last year the Wairarapa wood workers group were responsible for the production of four hundred wig stands for the Cancer Society. These are given to cancer patients who are using wigs following hair loss due to their treatment. The wigs can be kept in good condition by being placed overnight on these purpose built stands.
The stands were hugely appreciated and the Cancer Society has requested a further four hundred. Once again the group has risen to the challenge and contacting the other wood working groups who helped to make last year’s total.
This year the Cancer Society has provided a quantity of beautiful Fijian Kauri to be used for the top bowl. This timber was previously the hand rails at the Malvina Major Home. The rails had been decreed by OSH as being past their use by date.
Once again local wood worker Ted Colenso is hard at work turning out the stands. He says that anybody with turning skills and equipment would be very welcome to help by supplying some stands.
One new group taking part is the Greytown Menz Shed. Anybody who may be interested in assisting in the making of these stands or joining in making them at the Menz Shed is invited to contact Ted for further information. Phone 3069 503
