Fire Brigade

May 2014

Recruiting
The Martinborough volunteer fire Brigade is looking for two or three new members who live or work in Martinborough. Most often new volunteers hear about the opportunity to join through family, friends and work colleagues. So we are asking Star readers to have a word with anyone that may be a good candidate.

We are looking for people who are; fit and healthy, keen to learn, Up for a challenge, able to think on their feet and especially community minded.

The Martinborough Volunteer fire Brigade has been serving the community for over 108 years and relies entirely on the people of the community to fill the ranks of fire fighters. It does require a commitment of time but in return, volunteers learn new skills, make new friends and are part of a team dedicated to keeping the community safe.

If this has some appeal, come and see what it’s all about by stopping by the station on Tuesday nights at 7pm. We encourage anyone to contact a member for a chat or call 0800 FIRE RECRUIT. There is no obligation to come and have a go before signing up.

The emergency calls this month involved 3 alarm activations which turned out to be false alarms but in all cases required investigation to secure the buildings. An electrical fault caused a fire in a switch board that was out on arrival but could have been much worse. There were two medical assistance calls, one to locate a helicopter landing sight and the other to provide CPR assistance till the ambulance arrived.
