Martinborough Community Board has identified our youth as a priority area in the current three year plan, with an aim of promoting positive youth development and provision of appropriate recreational facilities. The town hall and community centre project is a key opportunity to engage young people to ensure that the new development meets their needs. Think about a wish list for youth in Martinborough?
A separate application is in for funding from the youth development partnership fund for the Tu horomata project with the aim of developing a sustainable youth driven mentoring programme for 12 to 25 year olds.
Both the youth forum and Tu horomata will build on the Discovery for Teens Trust, led by Sue Sullivan and Pat Church. This has funded 57 of our young people so far.
Our objectives:
-to give young people a voice and encourage youth involvement in the Martinborough Ward Community
-to build on youth leadership skills with positive mentoring
-to provide those involved in community projects with a way to engage younger people
-to have a representative on the Wairarapa Youth Council
We are planning our first meeting at the Circus Cinema conference room 4pm Sunday 11th May, so please any parents out there who have youth that they think would benefit or who would like to be involved themselves, we would love to see you. Nibbles will be served.
