Gather, saw, chop, split, chuck, truck and deliver for charity

Apr 2014

Martin borough Lions have been busy over the last couple of months cutting firewood for locals. As many as a dozen Lions at a time have met on dairy farmer Donald Woods farm at Pirinoa to cut rings with chainsaws, split them on splitters, load them onto to trucks and trailers for delivery to local purchases and residents.
“Some of the wood goes to customers who buy the wood at a retail price, and we use the money for charitable purposes,” says Lions President Graeme Thomson.

A fair amount of the wood goes to deserving locals to help see them through the cold and wet winter months. “Lions have been chopping firewood for locals for many years now; it is a great way for us to contribute to the community,” adds Graeme.
