A very happy New Year to all ‘Star’ readers.
It has been a very busy period over the Christmas break with several distinguished visitors enjoying the hospitality of the course; Stephen Fleming, Nathan Astle and Mark Hadlow to name just a few.
The juniors have also started the year off well with George and Reece having success at Manor Park recently.
The Grumpy’s still turn up on Tuesdays, wet or fine; they have a haggle amongst themselves and “uncle” Terry keeps a close eye on them.
Thursday club just keeps on getting bigger and bigger fields; a lot of banter and good cheer is always going on amongst this lot.
An Ambrose tournament was held on the weekend of Wellington Anniversary which produced 37 pairs playing three types of games; Ambrose, 4-ball and 4somes. Numbers were substantially up on last year which will certainly include more divisions next year.
By the time this goes to print the club’s annual Pro-Am which will be held on Tuesday 4 February will just be another memorable occasion but with 37 teams entered there will be 148 players on the day.
The club was very fortunate to have Telecom Business Hub providing the major sponsorship which allowed the club to provide some fabulous prizes. Prizes for the amateurs include golfing at Cape Kidnappers, accommodation and golf at Taupo, Telecom smart phones as well as dining packages, golf vouchers and wine.
A quality field of pro’s playing consisted of Order of Merit Troy Ropiha, Richard Lee, Martin Pettigrew, Vikrant Chandra, Grant Moorhead, Doug Holloway and Harry Bateman to name just a few.
Nga Waka will again sponsor a $1000 worth of Pinot Noir for nearest the pin on #8 and competitions will be held on all par 3 holes. Club Captain Ro and his committee have worked hard to ensure that this will be one of the very best and biggest Pro-Am’s in the country.
The club’s season starts off on Saturday, Feb 8th; a good turnout and good weather is anticipated for an enjoyable day. Opening day for the 18 and 9 hole ladies was Wednesday, 29 January and a fun day was planned. Good luck girls for your year at Interclub.
Marie Scrimshaw is having a ‘purple patch’ at the moment and winning everything. She even had her photo taken with Lydia Ko in Christchurch recently.
