Footpath for Oxford Street

Feb 2014

Recently most of the residents of the eastern end of Oxford Street signed a letter to the SWDC that pointed out the lack of any footpath for most of Oxford Street east of Regent Street.
The carriageway of this part of the road is narrow (only 5 metres) and the slope, or camber, of the seal is awkward to walk on or to negotiate with a buggy or mobility scooter. It is unsafe and will become worse when all the fifty or so residences in the Martinborough Estate are established.

The letter also outlined how a footpath could be constructed by the Council progressively thereby spreading the cost over a number of years.
It is understood that the Council has referred the matter of the provision of this and other footpaths to the Martinborough Community Board for comment.
It is hoped that work can start soon on a safe and usable footpath for this section of Oxford Street. (Contact: Hiatt Cox 306 9934.)
