It’s hard to believe that we are four weeks away from Christmas. Our family is in for a busy time in the next month. We have the annual Trust Board Resident and Family BBQ, entertainers galore, our Christmas lunch and hopefully a visit from the jolly fella in a red suit, along with our usual activities.
On 30th November Ronnie Hawkins retires from the staff of Wharekaka. We wish Ronnie a relaxing retirement and time to enjoy her grandchildren. I am sure that she will not be sitting still for long!! Ronnie had been at Wharekaka for 28 years. Thankyou Ronnie for your loyal service to Wharekaka we will miss you and your cheerful smile!.
Are you caring for an elderly family member? Have you considered respite care over the holiday season? You can have a break while we take care of your loved one. Wharekaka currently have rooms available. To find out more information on this service or our daycare programme please contact the Manager on 06 306 9781.
Our Wharekaka Auxiliary has had another busy month. Thank you to all those people who purchased cakes and home grown produce from the stall at the annual Martinborough Rose and Flower Show. You helped to make it our best ever fundraiser for Wharekaka.
December sees the Auxiliary supporting the South Wairarapa Rotary Club with sustenance as they entertain our residents with Christmas carols on Wednesday 11th December. We are also busy planning for the residents’ New Year Lunch on Tuesday 14th January. It helps Christmas continue on into January.
The Wharekaka Auxiliary organise an afternoon tea roster on Tuesdays throughout the year. It enables our residents to meet and chat to members of the Martinborough community. If you are interested in helping with our afternoon teas or any other activities of the Auxiliary, please contact Barbie Cox on 306 9934 or Helen Meehan on 06 306 9074.
As this will be our last news column for the year we would like to thank everyone that has supported Wharekaka during the year. For all the home grown vegetables, fruit and flowers delivered to the home and to the volunteers that come in and read or play cards and games with the residents a big thankyou
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
