Wim Julicher and Sue Darling of Julicher Estate are very happy wine producers right now, having just received news of a gold medal for their Julicher Estate Rosé 2013 at this year’s prestigious Air New Zealand Wine Awards. This tops off a record year for them, in which they have won an outstanding four gold medals at local and international wine shows.
Earlier in the year, Julicher picked up golds for both their Estate and 99 Rows Pinot Noir at two competitions in London, and another for their 2011 Estate Pinot Noir at the NZ International Wine Show.
Owner Wim Julicher believes that their vineyard site on Te Muna Road is a unique one, positioned as it is on the old Huangarua River path and sheltered by the Aorangi Ranges. As his partner Sue Darling says, “This is proof that we have something special out there on Te Muna Road and it’s just the endorsement we need to show that we produce world class wines”.
Sue also feels that their success is not only about Julicher, but says “ we hope this helps to keep the reputation of Martinborough’s vineyards and the excellence of their wines to the forefront of New Zealand wine”. She and Wim hope that winning awards such as these “ helps to keep Martinborough wines on the map”.
