We now know that summer is on its way with the lovely days and beautiful flowers in our garden.
We have had another busy action packed month at the facility. Our dining room extension was official opened by her Worship the Mayor, Adrienne Staples on 14th October. It was great to see so many people brave the windy weather that day and come along for the ceremony. On the same day the Trust Board unveiled the new Wharekaka sign.
This sign is in the lawn on the corner of Oxford and Sackville Streets and represents Wharekaka. It was made by a local Wairarapa Artist, Niko Thomsen. We thank the late Hilda Manguish for generously providing Wharekaka with a bequest to assist with the commission of this artwork.
Residents have enjoyed being able to use the dining room again. The spacious deck and lounge area are being utilised by visitors and residents during these warm days. Don (our cook) has ideas for summer meals on the deck during the months ahead.
Residents continue to enjoy the weekly outings in the van to visit local cafes, other facilities or just a drive around the village to take in all the spring flowers and building work popping up around the town. There is always competition to fill the seats on these excursions.
Our very busy Wharekaka Auxiliary will be selling the most delicious cakes and home grown produce at the annual Martinborough Rose and Flower Show on Saturday 9th November in the Town Hall. The best time to visit is in the afternoon after the judges have completed their assessments. Come along to view the lovely blooms and purchase some yummy goodies in support of Wharekaka Rest Home.
The Wharekaka Auxiliary would like to thank Deborah Coddington and Colin Carruthers for the most interesting visit to their new winery at Redbank Estate on Te Muna Road. The residents enjoyed driving through the winery. The Auxiliary’s next event for the residents is on 12 November with a garden visit. Please contact Helen Meehan on 306 9074 if you would like to help.
November is going to be another action packed month with activities and outings galore. If you are a senior member of our community (or you are a family member interested in our day care programme) please contact Wendy on 06 306 9701 for a copy of the month calendar. You are more than welcome to join our family for any activities Monday to Friday. Don’t be afraid – you never know what you may have been missing out on by not visiting Wharekaka!!
Did you know Wharekaka is the only facility in the South Wairarapa to offer a complete retirement package. We have ten independent lifestyle villas and 19 beds in the rest home. Currently we have rooms available for respite or long-term care. Please do not hesitate to pop in and see the Manager to have a chat about what Wharekaka can offer you or your loved one in the twilight years.
