With much applause and whistling from the full house, Jazz in Martinborough 2013 came to a triumphant conclusion in The Village Cafe on the Saturday night of Labour Weekend. The popular gypsy-style guitar duo, La Petite Manouche , plus two on percussion, had rounded off the third JIM Festival in style.
This year’s event had an extended season. It began with the youthful “Fresh Jam” evening on 10 August in the Town Hall, when five of Wairarapa’s eight secondary schools presented their jazz bands to a full house of student musicians, parents and friends. Then, following the main four-day fest at the end of the month, JIM extended into October so as to join the inaugural Kokomai Wairarapa Festival of Creative Arts.
JIM 2013’s financial statement will be publicly notified and proceeds will again go towards improving the Town Hall. Meanwhile the 7 members of the JIM Team thank all Martinborough helpers and contributors and acknowledge again the sponsorship of P & K, Trust House and Genesis Energy.
After 3 successful festivals, we can say that Jazz in Martinborough has an assured place in Martinborough’s annual calendar.
