By the time your readers see this edition of your paper, the Jazz in Martinborough (JIM) 2013 Festival will be done and dusted. At the time of writing this, I must say that it’s all looking very good. Well, maybe not the weather!
With snow forecast on the Rimutaka Hill for the start of the Festival, possibly to be followed by cold wet southerlies, there could be some problems. But with stunning live jazz and with Martinborough’s renowned hospitality, the 3rd festival is certain to have been another great occasion. It looks set to become an established annual event, continuing to raise funds to help improve the Town Hall.
There is a team of six organisers : Ted Preston, Lee and Mary Quayle, Bruce McMichael, Alan and Mich Le Maitre. They deserve our thanks. And if the venues and musicians have been living up to our expectations, they too deserve thanks from us all.
Most Martinborough businesses get enthusiastically involved, one way or another. Two must be specially mentioned, one large, one small: Pain and Kershaw/Mitre 10 and Scotty’s Meats, both so generous and so helpful in so many ways.
This year, JIM – indeed, Martinborough itself – was given a boost by two outside sponsors, Genesis Energy and Trust House Masterton. They’ve been good to JIM! We hope they stick with us!
