Homework Club Calls for Volunteers

Oct 2013

Do you have a free hour on a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly basis to help children learn at our local Homework Club?
Last year, following the success of the Martinborough Breakfast Club the Homework Club was established by education professional and Martinborough local Samantha Venning. The purpose of the Club is to support children with homework assignments and to enhance their enjoyment and academic achievement.

Martinborough Primary School principal, Craig Nelson, says the impact of his students attending Breakfast and Homework Club is significant, and their attitude and readiness to learn the skills for living have certainly had a huge boost.

“(The Club) is having a massive impact on these students and their ability to retain the learning from school, as well as fostering a very positive attitude towards school and academic progress. Having somewhere where their school work is reinforced, completed and fed back on is extremely powerful,” says Mr. Nelson.

The Homework Club also provides extra-curricular activities such as singing, piano and cooking lessons. Mrs Venning says having more helpers will enable to the club to provide each child with a dedicated adult between 2.45 pm and 4.00 pm, Monday through Thursday.
