It is wonderful to be involved with a club where members step up to the mark and I salute you. Chris Cole, Malcolm Wood, Mike Hatrick, Doug Ferguson, John Slater, Ali Holmes and Ro Griffiths to name just a few have been volunteering their time to assist Scott in keeping the course at its absolute best.
The Grumpy’s are without doubt the happiest when a jug is won although lately this has not been the case and Rick Hargreaves has won the comp for the last two weeks in a row.
The 9 hole ladies are another bunch of happy girls whose numbers have increased slightly but there is always room for more. Carole Butler was ecstatic recently when she actually got her name in print for winning one Wednesday and Pat Wood has had a fair amount of success too. The 18 hole ladies continue to thrive and both Marilyn Mackenzie and Marion McKenzie feature in the news often.
The ladies also held a combined 9 and 18 hole fun day which proved brilliant and congratulations went to Rosemary Sparks, Annette Smallwood and Leonie Wilde although I’m not too sure whether they were the winners or the losers of the day.
During the month the club held their annual Leftie-Righties tournament which was a huge success with 32 pairs in the field and the squally weather managed to hold off until the final stages of the last round.
Ash Reed and wife Gay are returning to sunny Whangarei; he will be missed by his mates and Bruce and Cathy Ward, back from their overseas trip tried to play the famous Royal St Andrews but were balloted out both days.
Finally, club champs are well and truly underway with all matches being played on time and a few surprise upsets along the way.
