Anybody who has lived in town for at least a year will know about the ‘famous’ annual MARTINBOROUGH ROSE & FLOWER SHOW, and if you don’t, you should! Spring is well on the way this year. Rose enthusiasts will have finished their pruning and be now agonising over families of aphids chomping those tender new shoots. It takes about 100 days from pruning to plentiful bloom production, so the Rose Show Committee ladies are looking forward to seeing plenty of entries [on Saturday November 9th, at our Town Hall.]
For those like me who find growing roses a mystery, there’s plenty of alternatives. Each year the Show has many entries of Irises, cut flowers, pot plants, fruit and veges, shrubs etc, And not to be overlooked – Floral Art classes for the creative persona within! And come on, kids – there’s a special section just for you, with prizes and a trophy to be won.
With just over two months to go; there’s time to catch up on those garden jobs, grow stuff and brush up your decorative skills.
Our Rose Show has been going for 65 years, and each year all profits go to local charities. In 2012, $150 was donated to the ‘Life Flight Trust’. Martinborough would be the poorer without its great little Show – we need your support. More details and schedules will be available in October.
