August club night commenced with a showcase of Wairarapa Blues Musicians including the return of “The Honkey Tonk Heroes” Eric Manson and John Beckett. These musos are well known to many in the Wairarapa for the classic Jazz and Blues they have delivered with style for over 30 years. They were followed by a line up including KB and the Roosters.
These musicians need no introduction as they are stalwarts of Cross Creek Blues Club, but legend has it Kevin Bannister (KB) toured With Peter Posa back in the day! He showed that he still has what it takes during a recent club night when he and the Roosters provided a fabulous rendition of Posa’s White Rabbit!
Cross Creek Blues Club then welcomed August guests “Sleight of Hanz”, four self-confessed aging Wellington rockers.” Al Simmonds and Scott Boswell have been around the N.Z. music scene for over 15 years while Paul Gannell and Allan Anthony have toured in Australia supporting Cold Chisel, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Albert Collins, and many others. Quality blues rock!
Our September guests are four versatile musicians from Hawkes Bay. Katie Charleton- Jones (Otane) on rhythm guitar and distinctive vocals. Setha Davenport (Pennsylvania, USA) adds harmonies and banjo with an old time feel that brings depth and colour. From the Outer Hebrides, Roddy Branagan weaves the music together with his improvisational mandolin style and original songs. All of this is held together by the upright bass of Marty Forrer (England/NZ) who has played in rock, country, jazz, latin, rockabilly and Irish bands. Together they play a wide range of music including Blues, Bluegrass, Old Country, Americana, and originals.
This rare treat will be supported in fine style by our own local musicians. Don’t miss it! Join us at the Tin Hut, Tauherenikau Wednesday 4 September 2013 commencing at 7:15pm (Dinner from 5pm).
