The Martinborough Community Patrol, which has been operating since 1995, needs more volunteers. Several of the original members (no names mentioned but they will know who they are), who have given great service, have decided it is time to pull back. I know the community as a whole, would like to pass on their sincere appreciation for all those late and/or ‘early’ nights over the years, generously given to help protect our property and safety.
Our numbers currently stand at thirty, which is about ten short of the ideal staffing level based on one night commitment per two months. This has clearly meant more frequent patrolling, and/or some key nights not having a patrol operating.
Working in pairs, the role is one of observing and reporting while patrolling the town and perimeters. A strict policy of non intervention is observed.
All volunteers undergo a police vetting procedure, are bound by a Code of Conduct and a Confidentiality Agreement, and have the opportunity to participate in basic training.
