The recent earthquakes really tested our readiness for the big one. Wharekaka residents managed the Sunday afternoon quake well and remained calm while the building rocked.
Hasn’t the weather been lovely the past couple of weeks? It is hard to imagine that we are having such warm sunny days in the middle of winter!!
The bird aviary has now been relocated to a sunny spot making way for the fabulous dining room extension. Does anyone have any birds they would like to donate to the aviary?
We are also on the lookout for any bird feeders – do you have one in the shed that you do not use any more? We would like to hang some in the oak trees around the property.

Wharekaka Extension Progresses Fast
In last month’s Star we reported on the dining room extension at Wharekaka. A month on and progress is impressive, with doors and windows in and insulation installed in walls and ceiling. The room will be ready for gib board to go up in the next week. The photograph shows the extension from the west, with the deck visible to the right and doors opening onto it.
The building work is expected to be completed in time for spring and the return of warmer days and sunny weather, so residents will be able to enjoy both dining room and deck to the full.
