PRUNING SUCCESS

Aug 2013

Success comes down to expertise and the talented pruning team at Murdoch James Estate have plenty of that, with a 1st place win at the recent 2013 regional Silver Secateurs competition.

The annual event Sponsored by PGG Wrightson and Bahco Tools was held at the Nga Waka vineyard in Martinborough last week, July 17th.

16 teams were entered in the popular competition which awards skills in vineyard pruning, based on speed, quality of work and tidiness. Strict guidelines are set that pruners are marked against, including expertise in selecting the best canes for production of the best fruit.

Winning team members are Chris Shaw, passionate pruner at Murdoch James Estate since 2008, Daniel Philips, a long time vineyard professional who joined the Murdoch James team in 2010, and Neil Bennett, usually found at Cellar Door, but who has been getting his hands dirty in the vineyard since 2012.
