LOT EIGHT at the America’s cup

Aug 2013

Visitors to San Francisco during the America’s Cup get the chance to savour Lot Eight extra virgin olive oil.

At the NZ Trade Exhibition showcase in San Francisco during the America’s Cup local media, chefs, food writers, Kiwis in San Francisco and retail and food services buyers will have the opportunity to sample LOT EIGHT’s 2013 Oil Maker’s Blend. The oil is fresh from the press and diners will taste the pure, clean taste of New Zealand evident in this release care of Nalini’s blending skills.

Oils from LOT EIGHT will feature on the menu at the Waterbar restaurant and at the San Francisco chefs’ showcase planned from 2 – 4 August in Union Square. New Zealand chef, Al Brown, and New York chef, Brad Farmerie, have designed the showcase menu. The menu at the Waterbar is a joint project of Waterbar’s executive chef Parke Ulrich and Al Brown.

LOT EIGHT was established in 1997 and emerged as one of the first commercial oil brands in the region in 2003.  Initially the olives came from the lifestyle property where the company still blends its oils and produces a range of food products. A succession of regional and national awards in the early years, including consecutive “best in class in New Zealand”, encouraged Nalini and Colin Baruch to grow their business focusing on oil and food matches, blending different varieties to complement a wide variety of food choices.

Growth has also led to the addition of contracted supplier groves, the use of contracted harvest and horticultural services and processors.  Now, LOT EIGHT sources olives from various regions in New Zealand, allowing the creation of exceptional varietal blends, suited to a broad range of food combinations that reflect regional environments.

LOT EIGHT remains artisanal, with the couple present in almost every step of production.  The process from picking to bottling is personally supervised by Nalini. All LOT EIGHT products are crafted to Nalini’s tastes referencing her own heritage of Indian spices, the fresh produce of the Pacific and her love of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours.
