Wild storms the threat of bridge wash outs couldn’t stop the lovely team of Rural Women holding the BALLENTYNES Fashion Show at the Martinborough golf course. A week later than the original planned event, but safety and sensibility were paramount during the stormy week…! The Fashion Show was to help raise money for the Wellington@Heart Mums
This event was a huge success because of a team of remarkable women who see a need and help make it happen and run smoothly…the incredible ‘World Famous Dessert Bar’ was jaw dropping and I unashamedly went back for thirds, though had made sure I had no lunch or dinner leading up to the event! ..special thanks must also go to the Martinborough Golf Club for the kind use of your venue.
In the last Martinborough Star I talked about Wellington@Heart and how it is their 25th Anniversary this year. Wellington@Heart offer support to families (there are over 40 families in the Wairarapa and Wellington area alone) who have children with heart defects and do not get any financial assistance from the NZ Heart Foundation because they are born with heart defects. ( ironically if you get sick during your lifetime you THEN come under their umbrella).
The Rural Women in Martinborough heard about the proposed ‘Mums Pamper Weekend’ for 40 of these mums on the weekend of September 6th and 7th at the Copthorn Hotel in Masterton and came on board to help by hosting the fashion show.
As mums they can relate to how hard things can be at times especially when you might have a child who is sick and that often these ‘HeartMums’ never get a break from the stresses and strains and so the idea of a ‘pamper weekend away’ was hatched.
Please contact us if you would like to help in some way on Saturday 6th Sept, or if you are a cafe business who can donate ‘8 coffees and cake’ on this weekend – we would be very grateful. for that.. so If you can help in some way please phone Linda Blake on 0630 66176 or 0272888 680 or email wonderdog@xtra.co.nz or look for our Facebook page called..
