The Medici Lectures 2013 “best ever lineup?”

The 18th Medici lectures series features four local speakers 

Kicking off on Thursday June 6 is Neil McCallum with a talk entitled “Wine  to gems – hobbies out of control His hobby at the time was wine tasting and he yearned a high quality vineyard and winery. Planting at Dry River began in 1979 and within a few years a modest beginning was transformed into a profitable venture.

Gerald Hensley whose talk, Friendly Fire: What happens when allies quarrel will be presented on Thursday June 13.  Gerald trained as an historian and served as a diplomat for twenty years before becoming Head of the Prime Ministers’ Departments under both Sir Robert Muldoon and David Lange and later Secretary of Defence.

“From Neudorf to Te Kairanga” is the title of John Kavanagh’s talk on Thursday June 20. He is the chief winemaker at TK, Foley Family Wines (NZ) Ltd. John’s will talk of his career in wine From Martinborough to Neudorf Vineyards in Nelson and back to Martinbrough to revitalise TK’s production.

The fourth  and final speaker, Thursday June 27, is Dr. Tim Maling and his topic is “Polypharmacy and the Aging Population – its easier to start than to stop.” As one of the first clinical pharmacologists in New Zealand Tim will share with us some his more memorable moments in establishing a new medical Café Medici will  open at 6.,30 p.m with a glass of mulled wine and passarounds. Lectures start at 7.30.
