The Martinborough Red Cross has a busy year ahead. There are two main activities our local group concentrate on.
Fundraising of course. Money raised or donated is now largely used here ‘at home’ in the Wairarapa. This month look out for a super raffle – a beautiful hand-made double quilt, donated by Jane Donald. Tickets are only $2.00, on sale in P & K’s by the checkout.
This year our Annual Appeal will take place on May 8th, celebrating “World Red Cross Day”. Look out for us!
Besides raising money, our local group provides help and regular services to people in need. Did you know that we have TRANSPORT available for folk unable to travel to medical appointments? Wairarapa Branch has a “bus” which does trips every day. To book this, just phone the Masterton Office (06) 377 3586. Martinborough also has a roster of volunteers who can sometimes help. Contact our Medical Centre or Liz Stevens on 306 9095 [or sometimes at the Library 3069758].
Lastly we want to say THANKYOU to those ‘knitters’ out there. With winter coming up [yes, it will eventually] it’s a great hobby and the results will soon be appreciated! Items are used locally or for refugees arriving to our country as the Red Cross now administers the Refugee Service in New Zealand.
Would you like to join us? We would love some new members. Phone Maree Roy, [Co-ordinator] on 306 9319.
