Over 100,000 new bottles were recently unloaded at the Martinborough bottling plant, heralding their busiest time of year when up to 30,000 bottles can be processed in a day. The plant employs six permanent and up to six casual staff and uses mainly NZ-made bottles from OI in Auckland.
Mid-February to mid-April is the plant’s busiest period as winemakers bottle the remainder of their 2012 season’s wine to make tanks available for the rapidly approaching 2013 vintage.
Observant passers-by may have noticed that the side wall of the building is being demolished. This is both as an earthquake strengthening precaution and to provide new office space. More on this in next month’s Star.
