It’s time to get back to books.  I have been gabbling on about other things for too long although I am sure you will want to know that we are hoping to move in March (although only when the works are finished and we have everything in)!  Meanwhile how about a few of these book beauties that have just been delivered: Girlie comedy: how about Australia’s answer to Stephanie Plum?  For those who do not know Ms Plum and the hilarious silly situations she finds herself in as a Bounty Hunter – for a light read by the pool or just before sleeping, they are great.  This time Erica Jewell is finding her way through Melbourne in ‘Rough diamond’ by Kathryn Ledson. Crime: Ruth Rendell writing as Barbara Vine ‘The child’s child’ – no introduction needed for a master of crime writing.

Literary fiction: The author of ‘Salmon fishing in the Yemen’, Paul Torday has produced another masterpiece entitled ‘ Light shining in the forest’ Non-fiction: ‘The voyage of their life’ is the story of the SS Derna and its passengers; migrants from death camps in Poland, camps in Hungary, gulags in Siberia and others.  The author, Diane Armstrong, has researched the passengers and tells their hellish 3 month journey in 1948 to Australia.

Autobiography: ‘French children don’t throw food’ by Pamela Druckerman.  Sounds fascinating and can’t wait to read it.  Not that my children throw food but they do drop it everywhere.

1. Children’s books: As usual lots of new picture books ones, however a new selection of Jahri Jah Jah books in both Te Reo and English as well as an audio CD.  A new talking book for primary school age: ‘A hero’s guide to deadly dragons’ by Cressida Cowell read by Dr Who himself – David Tennant.  For the car enthusiasts, how about ‘The ultimate handbook of Hot Wheels’.

This New Year has been quiet on the new books front so far but they are all flooding in now.  If you haven’t yet got a PIN number to access our catalogue online, then ring us or come in for one.  There is a list on the website wls.org.nz of all the new books in the month and you can reserve them from there.
