Let’s start off with the opening day activities. The format was teams of four playing a type of Ambrose. After prize giving members had a fantastic meal which was followed by Graham Jacobson and his karaoke. Peter Hudson put on a first class act when he climbed a pole but got stuck on a nail and it was some time before he managed to get down and Bob Goodley put on a right royal act until his trousers fell down to his ankles, which was not a pretty sight. Although numbers were slightly down for the day, it was still considered successful.
Bill Jones has started coaching the juniors – 9.30am on Sunday mornings and 3.30pm Wednesday afternoons. The Grumpy’s continue to increase in numbers and Rick Hargreaves won the Stableford recently and the jug count now stands at 29.
The women’s 9 and 18 holers have benefitted from the beautiful weather also and their numbers have been up to 50 on some Wednesdays.
Between 30 – 45 roll up for Thursday Club each week and I noticed that on one particular day James Elworthy had a shocker.
The club staged a Pro-Am recently which proved a very long but otherwise successful day. To all the sponsors and volunteers thank you for making this a great day. Roger Parkinson sponsored the first hole in one which went very early in the morning long before the main field of pro’s got underway.
There have been three holes in one during February. New member Dave Hutchison got the first one during Opening Day and Tony Tait and Peter Hudson got theirs last weekend.
The St John Wairarapa Charity Golf Day will be held on Friday, 12 April – so please get a team together for such a great cause and register your entry with Terry Blacktop or the Club.
