It is pleasing to see the new toilets being installed and the design of the building fits in so well with the museum next door, these will be open by Friday 1st March in time for the Rotary Fair. There will be landscaping completed around the building and new gardens planted. There is one toilet with baby changing facilities and disability access, one unisex toilet and one men’s urinal toilet. We feel that a huge vote of thanks should go to council staff for ensuring that the building is sensitive to those around it.
This year there are plans to complete the fence at Considine Park along Princess Street, from Centennial Park to the entrance to the baths. This will tidy up the whole area and make it more accessible to everyone. The Pony club will continue to use the area on Pony Club days and gymkhanas.
City Care, Councils new contractors, have tidied up the olive trees and the walkway through Considine Park to Dublin Street west. This is now looking lovely – we hope you will all take the time to walk through the park and enjoy this – the track is limestone and easy walking.
With the fantastic summer we have been having the swimming baths are proving a great way to cool off and it is especially pleasing to see so many people enjoying this facility. There are plans ahead to further enhance this wonderful facility and we look forward to letting you know what these will be as the plans are finalized.
We had two applications for grants at our first meeting in January and are pleased to be able to financially assist both the Business Association with the Barrel Race and also Victims Support. Victims Support volunteers quietly go about assisting many people within our community and we appreciate all the work that they do in ensuring victims and their families are well looked after.
Lastly, but not least, we wish Dr Jack Dowds all the very best for the future and extend a vote of thanks for all the assistance he has provided to the Community Board over his term in office.
