Everyone is happy with the wonderful weather we are having this year, but none more so than Ma and Pa Reed. We certainly chose the right time to move to Lake Ferry. The views from the kitchen window across the lake to the hills certainly beats looking into someone’s back yard and makes even doing the dishes a pleasure.
There are many people coming down on the weekends to fish and at times it almost looks like the annual fishing competition is on. The sea has been very calm until this past week with little ripples of breakers instead of the usual crashing waves. My hunter/gatherer husband, surfcasting off the beach, was excited one evening when he caught a 40cm snapper followed by a 50cm gurnard within half an hour of each other.
Lake Onoke should be renamed Glistening Waters – it looks stunning at present. The water is clear and warm and as the mouth has been closed for the past week, there have been good catches of flounder.
This morning however, a surprise visitor showed up while pulling in the flounder net – a seal who has taken up temporary residence because of the mouth closure –must be great from him or her to have his dinner held captive by the lake boundaries. Flounder catches over the past day or so have diminished so I guess the flounder are in hiding which would be a good career move or maybe they have been providing for Mr. or Mrs. Seal’s expanding waistline.
As the Toyota ad of bygone years said “this is a wheelie, wheelie gwate place to live”.
