Throughout 2012, the Brigade focused on recruiting which has resulted in four new members who have begun initial training in the Brigade. They are, Zoe Sinclaire, Calam Tennant, Chantelle Struthers and Brent McKensie. Also, the previous class of recruits (pictured) attended the week long Basic Fire Fighters course at the National Training Centre in Rotorua.
More experienced members continued to increase their knowledge and skills. Jamie Brock advanced to Qualified Fire fighter and competed the Emergency Response Driver course. CFO Jackson and Mike Lace completed the Volunteer Executive Officers course.
The emergency responses by the Brigade since the last report included a number of vegetation fires. The dry weather and high winds make this summer a very high risk that small fires get out of control quickly with devastating results.
Due to the high risk of fire, currently there is a total fire ban in the South Wairarapa District.
The Brigade responded to 16 calls since the last report, 8 medical assist calls including motor vehicle accidents, 6 vegetation fires, and 2 alarm activations.
