Scenic, fun & healthy

Oct 2012

Cycling the back roads around Martinborough is scenic, fun and invigorating, all at the same time. Join more than 500 other riders on the Martinborough Charity Fun Ride, Sunday 28 October.

The course winds through beautiful spring countryside, taking in farmland, grape vines and olive groves as well as the streets of Martinborough, recently described as “the sweetest visitor spot in the Wairarapa” by Lonely Planet.

Celebrating the 20th Martinborough Charity Fun Ride, organiser Geoff Lankow of Martinborough says “we are aiming for 500-plus riders this year.

“The more experienced riders do the full 115km circuit looping through Gladstone towards Masterton, while recreational riders enjoy the 48km course through Millars Road and Ponatahi back to Martinborough.  They tell us they like the countryside and the variety of country roads.

“It is not a race, it’s a fun ride, to promote cycling as part of a healthy lifestyle” Geoff said.  “We raise funds for the local Volunteer Fire Brigade and South Wairarapa Order of St John.”

Online entries are open now, on www.mcfr.org.nz.
