Friendship Club celebrates

Sept 2012

The Friendship Club were up to their tricks again this month celebrating 23 years with a masquerade Birthday Party.

Many chose to wear masks and wigs which was fun, with some very beautiful hand held masks etc. However Guest Speaker Sister Monica Landy stole the afternoon with her bright red wig, full face mask and red hat. We needed to ask her who she was.

Mrs Joan Gibson, the club’s first convenor, hosted the meeting and highlighted events over the preceding 23 years and showing the diverse types of events we had participated in.

Sister Monica spoke of how the establishment of support of older people all began after a trip to the USA with a discussion relating to population in later years and keeping people happy with what they were doing. Mrs. Gibson thanked Sister Monica and presented her with a bountiful basket of goods.

Time was then spent in playing charades, maybe if it was done more we would become better in the acting it out. The meal was a delicious pot luck lunch which was much enjoyed.

John was the only male present and felt rather outnumbered – he would appreciate other males coming to share the home cooking and good company.

Folk meet at the Presbyterian Church Hall on the last Monday of the month. No joining fee but $3 for the afternoon starting at 11.45am and finishing at 2 pm. We will make you welcome
