with a snip of the ribbon the Kabin is open for business and the friendly library staff , Janet McAllister (left), Shirley Nightingale and Liz Stevens are ready to welcome customers. First through the door was Tony Belshaw.

Greetings from the Library Kabin (yes, I know it should be spelt with a C but it is short for Portakabin and besides which, we like to be different!).

As you may be aware from visiting Mitre 10, we are snuggled between Mitre 10 and P&K in the car park. We opened the Kabin on a gloriously sunny day on Thursday 19th July at 1.30 with a ribbon cutting ceremony (see photo in case you missed it!).

As always, I try to view everything in a positive light but, actually, it is hard to find a downside – we are right in the thick of everything and see everyone coming and going (which is great for us nosy ones) and we can stand on the doorstep and shout ‘Books, books, come get your books’ just like a traditional hawker.

Seriously, we are showcasing the best and newest of our books and offering almost all the services we did prior to the move. Our main stock of books is still on hand to staff in the library building, as are the fax and photocopier.

Two changes are notable – the internet facilities inside are not available but the Wifi connection still functions.

Also, Tuesday’s Book Babies session is now being held in the Martinborough School Library at 10 (thanks very much M School).

The Wairarapa Community Law Centre will still be visiting to offer free legal advice, the next session is in the Kabin on Tuesday 28th August.

We love our lovely cute, cosy Kabin and if you haven’t already been to see us, do come on in – 10-5 weekdays and 10-12 Saturdays.
