World Blood Day

Jun 2012

The world’s largest drop of blood was formed on a ski field in Korea on February 23rd this year. Don’t worry, it was only an image formed by 3,000 students dressed in red, standing in the snow.
It will be summer in Korea on the official international Blood Day of June 14th so the alternative winter day was selected for maximum effect and photo opportunity.
The students also formed the letters of the word ‘Heroes’, which is the 2012 theme for World Blood Day.
NZ Blood has chosen to collect in Martinborough on World Blood Day, which makes the ‘P and K Blood Day’ more special than usual. Blood donor ‘Heroes’ will be treated with the usual delicious baking from the P&K Deli, free Medici espresso coffee and more. David Kershaw is keen to get the best turn out ever- which is a challenge with winter sniffles.
If you haven’t already signed up to be a Hero and save lives by ‘putting the needs of others above your own’, please contact the team at P&K to register and you will be allocated a time that suits to reduce any waiting. However, it has been noted by the chat and laughter at the Town Hall that any waiting can be rather pleasurable during this special community day.
