Library News

Jun 2012

Media alert – the WLS now has its own newsletter. Don’t get too excited, it’s only a monthly leaflet. However it does contain all the basic information you need such as opening hours, website, blog and telephone numbers as well as a list of some of the new books to look out for, juicy titbits of news and fascinating bits of useless information.
Much the same as libraries really, where you can get virtually anything you need in the way of information – useless or not. Other news this month, is that Martinborough and Greytown Libraries were selected as locations for Yarns in Barns. As I am writing this, they are yet to happen but we are quite excited about having Al Brown and Fleur Sullivan at Greytown and Ken Benn

and Gaye Sutton at Martinborough.
Other upcoming events are a new ‘Local Heroes’ exhibition on the Martinborough Library gallery wall. The exhibition will present one ‘hero’ at a time for a month and will showcase the life of that person with memorabilia and photographic images.
Other news is Featherston Library now has a lovely lino area replacing the carpet behind the issues desk and our thanks for the patience everyone showed who visited the library on the day it was laid. Those library chairs will now move really fast across the floor.
Some interesting books have just been ordered after requests by customers: The gun by C J Chivers (a history of the AK-47); When horse became saw by Anthony Macris (living with Autism); Big fat lies by David Gillespie (an insight into the Diet industry); How tea cosies changed the world (that needs no introduction!); War in Val D’Orcia by Iris Origo (Tuscany during WWII) and of course I can’t miss out The queen with the wobbly bottom (a picture book which speaks for itself). You can put your name down for these or for any of the 93,567 items we have on our shelves.
