Hasn’t the weather been fantastic lately? Maybe autumn is the new summer – whatever the effect of climate change etc. our residents are enjoying the warm days, activities and walks outside to soak up the vitamin D.
If you didn’t come to Wharekaka on Friday 20th April you missed a great speaker. Eric Smart (a Scotsman in a kilt) gave a terrific talk about his adventures on his bike. Eric biked around the world after recouping from a very long illness.
Entertainment is always happening at Wharekaka. Wendy provides residents with a varied and busy timetable. The community is always welcome to attend any entertainment or activities. A gold coin donation is always appreciated.
Coming up we have a duo concert by Martin Lawrence and friends on Friday 4th May at 4.00pm, then a trio concert by Cherry Van Kranen and friends on 15th May 11am.
Our new Pilates classes are enjoyed by all who attend. Jane is a qualified instructor and has worked with the Arthritis Foundation. Classes are held in the dayroom every Monday 11.00am. Sessions cost $3.50 plus the purchase of your own Chi ball $30.00 to practice the exercises at home. The exercises can be performed sitting down. I have heard from some people that they are moving muscles and joints they haven’t moved for years and feel great – so come along for some fun, laughter and exercise. You never know you may just enjoy it!!
Wharekaka are on the lookout for large print books that can be donated for residents to read. If you are having a clean out of the bookcase give us a thought. A big thank you to the wider community that donate surplus vegetables and fruit from their gardens to the kitchen, this is always appreciated. Also, people who drop in flowers to brighten up the facility.
Volunteers are always welcome at Wharekaka. If you can assist in any way to take a resident for a walk, play card games, rummy or just sit and chat you are always welcome. Please contact Wendy on 3069701 for further information.
