Time to Return to the JIM!

May 2012

JIM is back for 2012! The highly successful community jazz festival from the wine village of Martinborough (Jazz in Martinborough) will be returning in 2012.
“It’s Spring-time jazz in Martinborough, from Thursday 30 August to Sunday 2 September for this year’s festival,” says Festival Producer Ian Cresswell. “There is considerable support for us to continue with a jazz event in Martinborough. It fits in nicely with the wine village lifestyle, and holding it on the first weekend of Spring suits both locals and visitors.” The event will be after Wellington on a Plate and before Toast Martinborough.
“Fiona Pears will be back too,” says Festival Director Ted Preston. “Fiona was one of our headline acts in 2011 and she is very keen to return.” Fiona Pears recently played at the Carterton Events Centre as part of the Arts on Tour New Zealand series and will be returning to the Wairarapa once again to play in the Jazz in Martinborough festival.
“Fiona is a marvelous instrumentalist, sparkling performer and great supporter of community jazz. She enjoyed her visit last August and we are very pleased to once again engage this international performer,” says Ted. “This year will be different for us, as she is bringing her own band including Pete Fleming (bass), and Mike Ferrar (guitar).”
“We are also very happy to have Wellington Jazz Combo Hot Club Sandwich in our lineup for 2012,” adds Ted. Featuring the distinctive guitar and vocals of Andrew London, the saxophone of James Tait-Jamieson and the bass platform of Terry Crayford, this group of seasoned jazz musicians guarantee an evening of fun that will include original continental hot club jazz.
“Hot Club Sandwich have played Martinborough before, but this is their first appearance at Jazz in Martinborough. They are in high demand and bring top-quality music and entertainment to our festival.”
