Martinborough will be having a second Jazz Festival this coming Spring. A meeting will be held on the 15th of February for all who are interested in contributing to the second edition of Jazz in Martinborough.
“We’re inviting anyone who is interested in finding out what we have been doing and how far things have progressed towards the 2012 festival,” says festival founder Ian Cresswell. “If you wanted to help last year but couldn’t do so, please get to this meeting. If you did help, we hope you’ll come too and maybe help again. We are thinking of holding a similar event to 2011. Lots of contributions will be needed and we’ve been promised some sponsorship and will be looking for more.”
“Jazz in Martinborough is a community-based project that would not have gone ahead last year without the sponsorship, support and hard work of lots of Martinborough citizens,” says Lee Quayle, another of the organisers. “We are keen that the festival be for the people and by the people and so ask anyone that is interested to come along to the meeting.”
“One thing we have done,” says music coordinator Ted Preston “is set dates early to get the musicians we want and to make it easier for people to plan ahead.” The festival will be held over 4 days between the 30th of August and September 2nd. These dates have been advertised in regional events calendars.
“We can confirm that there will be a mixture of new acts and artists, and the return of a couple of favourites,” says Ted. “We also intend to involve young jazz musicians from the Wellington and Wairarapa regions and collaborate with other local music interests.”
“To find out more about the festival, and how you might help, come to the meeting on the 15th,” says Ian. “5.30 pm, in the Conference Room at the Martinborough Hotel.”
