Fire Brigade

Feb 2012

A couple of out of the ordinary calls during this reporting period.
On December 3rd the brigade was called to a grass fire at Murdoch James.
On the 12th the call was to a garden shed on fire at Ponatahi. The call on the 21st was to a grass and hedge fire, which was under control.

On the 23rd the brigade was called to cut a lady’s ring from her finger. The finger was swelling with the ring in danger of cutting off circulation.
The call on the 29th was to what proved to be a false alarm at Cape Palliser. The brigade was recalled while travelling there.

On January 1st the call was to the La De Dah music festival to provide some required clean water .

On the 5th a call came to attend a car which had rolled on the Hinakura Road, there were no injuries.
The high winds experienced on the 14th brought down a tree which blocked the road by the golf course. The brigade removed the tree.

On the 16th a fire alarm in the Station Hotel building was accidentally activated by the heat from an exploding light bulb situated near the arm sensor .

On the 17th the brigade was called to some hay bales and trees which were on fire.

This season’s regular rains have kept the grass green reducing the risk of grass fires. However the growth has been prolific and the brigade reminds that a dry spell will quickly brown the long grass off creating a considerable fire hazard. Take care out there.
