Community Board notes

Dec 2011

The last Martinborough Community Board meeting for this year was held on 21 November – it’s hard to believe that we won’t be meeting again until the end of January.

It’s been a busy year with finalising the Management and Development plans for Considine/Centennial Parks. The Lions Club has removed the fence along the walkway and re-limed the path which is a huge improvement and Council has undertaken to tidy up and control the weeds and long grass so that work can begin to extend the path out to Princess Street and improve access through Centennial Park.

Although Pony Club has a “licence to occupy” Considine Park, this area is open to the public any time that the Club is not using it. The Board, together with Lions and the Fire Brigade hosted a very successful Guy Fawkes evening. We would be interested to hear from any community group who might like to take over organisation of this event next year with support from the Community Board.

We have also provided comment on the draft Management/Development Plan for the Square which will be finalised early next year following further consultation with the community.
Members of the Board are on the Town Hall Committee and have been involved in helping to commission structural and architectural reports. There will be lots more on this next year.
The Playground Committee is investigating 2-3 new pieces of equipment for older children and it is hoped to have these installed early next year.

A sign for the layby at Bidwills Cutting is also in the planning stages and will be finalised at our next meeting. Look out for the new murals that Martinborough School children have been painting to brighten up the swimming pool area. The concrete around the toddler’s pool has been leveled and there are plans to extend the shade area.
The Community Board has also assisted with preparation and funding of the Traffic Management Plans for the Barrel Race and the Christmas Parade.

The Martinborough and wider community are very lucky to have access to additional funding for projects from income from Pain Farm. The Community Board has a large say in how these funds are spent so please take time to complete the questionnaire that was sent out last month as your comments and ideas will be a great help to decision making.

Our thanks to Councillors, the Mayor, CEO and Council staff who have supported and assisted us during the year. Pam, Jo, Adi and Heather wish you all a happy and safe Christmas break
