Let’s face it – librarians love books and we love books more than we love computers – obviously. However, we also love pleasing our customers and are, therefore, trying very hard to embrace technology. We now have a ‘blog’ for those who understand and enjoy social networking online. We would love to have bloggers visit us and link in to our site. I do try and personally put something on each week but it can be difficult to choose which to highlight from all the fantastic new books. We also put events and news on the blog as well, so take a look when you can.
Our digital archive has undergone a facelift recently and is now more user friendly and much more attractive. The archive (called the ‘Kete’) can be added to by anyone and is a valuable resource for local history as well as for current events. Images, sound recordings or videos can be uplifted and viewed globally. We are happy to show you the ropes and help if needed. Just ask.
I don’t want to spoil the surprise but within the next 6 weeks, we will also be launching e-books, so watch this space. All of these technological wonders can be accessed from our website or directly through a search engine (details below). The WLS website will also be having a facelift in the near future and we are looking forward to that.
With a PIN number, obtainable from the library, you can create your account, reserve books and renew books. Even without a PIN you can search the catalogue and view the new books added each month. There we are back to books again, after a little digital wandering – ‘Sleeping with the enemy’, Coco Chanel’s biography is just in. Paul Holmes ‘Daughters of Erebus’, the entire Booker Prize finalists’ books, several tapas cookery books (as requested), and really off-the-wall craft books have all just arrived. Leave the computer and come and love the books, as we do.
